Defender Volleyball Receiving Votes In Poll

(Wednesday, August 21; Sioux Center, Iowa)  The Dordt College Defender volleyball team is receiving votes in the 2013 Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches’ Preseason Top  25 Poll released on Tuesday, August 20.

The Defenders took 10 points in the poll conducted by 22 coaches nationwide.  The Defenders will play ten matches this season against teams either in the poll or in the receiving votes category of the poll.

The Defenders will open the 2013 season on Friday, August 23 against Baker (Kansas) and Valley City State (North Dakota) at the Northwestern Red Raider Classic in Orange City at 2:30 and 8:30 respectively.  Dordt also faces Jamestown (North Dakota) and Tabor (Kansas) on Saturday.  Baker and Jamestown are both receiving votes in the pre-season poll.

Dordt College was 22-12 in 2012 and return seven players who played in the regular rotation last season.

Lindsey Floen (Senior; Sioux Center, Iowa) is the leading returning hitter with a 2.4 kills per set average to go with 1.2 blocks per set.  Kayla Gesink (Junior; Sioux Center, Iowa) handled the setting duties and averaged 9.3 assists per set and Kayla Broekhuis (Senior; Edgerton, Minnesota) led the team in digs with a 4.3 average.  All three players earned 2012 all-GPAC postseason honors.

Dordt College will open the home portion of the 2013 season when it hosts Grand View and York on Saturday, September 7.
