Dordt Soccer Faces Morningside Saturday

GAMETIME…  The Dordt Defenders travel to Morningside in Sioux City, Iowa on Saturday, October 12.  The women’s game will start at 6:00 and the men will get underway at about 8:15.  Results will be posted on www.dordt.edu/athletics ; https://www.facebook.com/dordtdefenders and https://twitter.com/dcathletics when the game is complete.

SCOUTING REPORT… The Morningside women are 9-2-2 overall and 5-0 in the GPAC.  All five conference wins for Morningside have come in succession since a 3-0 September 15 loss to Avila.

Morningside has outscored opponents 30-12 this season and have outshot teams 118-62.  Kelsey Niles has scored nine goals with three assists and Amy Samuelson has five goals and three assists.  Brenna Turner has three goals and three assists.  Felicia Remann has played 947 minutes in goal and has allowed nine goals for a 0.86 goals allowed average and she has made 60 saves.

The Morningside men are 4-8 overall and 1-4 in league play with a win over Mount Marty in league play on September 15.  The Mustangs have been outscored 26-14 this season and have been outshot on goal by a slight 81-80 margin.

Saxx Adams is tops on the team with five goals and Logan Schaefers has scored three goals.  Taylor Martin has four assists and Adam Johnson has two.  Zach Stephenson has played 801 out of 1,102 minutes in goal and has allowed 19 goals and has a 2.13 goals allowed per-90 minutes played average.

DORDT COLLEGE NOTES… The Defender women are 0-12 overall and 0-4 in GPAC play.  The Defenders have lost four games by one or two goals. 

The Defenders have 32 shots on goal this season and are led by Nicole Postman’s four goals.  Katie Kortman has played 963 minutes in goal and has allowed 37 goals with a 3.46 goals per-90 minutes played and has 84 saves while facing 111 shots.

The Dordt College men are 3-8-1 overall and 1-2-1 in GPAC play this season.  The Defenders have wins over Friends, Clarke and Concordia.  The Defenders have been involved in four one goal games this season decided by a goal and are 1-3 in those contests. 

The Defenders have been outscored 18-9 this season and have 54 shots on goal.  Dordt is led by Eric Grootenboer’s five goals and Brady Van Holland has four goals with three assists.  Derick Sackey has three goals and Mason Davis each have two assists.  Joey Rasnic and Jon Brinkerhoff have split the goalkeeping duties this season with Rasnic playing 382 minutes and he has allowed seven goals for a 1.65 goals per-90 minutes played average.  Brinkerhoff has played 737 minutes in goal and has allowed 18 goals for a 2.2 goals allowed average.

THE SERIES… The Defenders lead the women’s series 10-6 with Morningside winning last year’s contest 2-0.  Dordt was out shot on goal 11-4 in the loss.

The Defender men trail the series 11-6 and won last year’s game 3-2.  Dordt got a goal from three different players including the game winner by Scott Van Wylen in the 85th minute.  Dordt had a slight 9-8 shots on goal advantage.

LAST TIME… Morningside beat Dakota Wesleyan 7-0 on Tuesday night with Amy Grause scoring two goals.  Five other Mustangs scored a goal each as Morningside put 20 shots on goal and Wesleyan had three. 

The Dordt women lost a 1-0 decision to Briar Cliff after surrendering a first half goal to the Chargers.  Dordt was outshot 19-5 with Kortman facing seven shots and she made six saves.

The Morningside men lost a 1-0 decision to Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday, October 9.  The two teams had 19 shots a piece with Wesleyan getting ten shots on goal to nine for the Tigers.
The Dordt men lost a 1-0 decision to Briar Cliff on Wednesday afternoon.  Dordt outshot the Chargers 14-8 and 6-3 on frame.  Brinkerhoff made two saves in goal and six different Defenders had shots on goal in the loss.

NEXT UP…… Morningside will face Briar Cliff on October 22 at home before playing a pair of road games at Nebraska Wesleyan and Northwestern.

The Defenders will host Hastings on Saturday, October 19 before hosting Northwestern on October 22.
