GPAC Men's Basketball Poll Released

(Monday, October 14; Sioux Center, Iowa)  The Great Plains Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Poll was released late last week by the GPAC home office in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Dordt College Defenders, winners of the 2013 GPAC Post-Season Tournament and NAIA Elite Eight qualifier, have been picked fifth in extremely tight voting by the 11 GPAC coaches.

The Defenders totaled 75 points and two first place votes in the poll after posting a 28-7 record in 2012-13.  Dordt will open this season on November 1 and 2 when the Defenders face Valley City State and Jamestown in North Dakota on consecutive days.  Dordt opens the GPAC season on Saturday, November 16 on the road at Midland and will play its home opener on Saturday, November 23 against Doane.

Dordt College returns three players who played in at least 31 games last season.  Austin Katje averaged 10.4 points per game and 3.7 rebounds per contest last season.  Kyle Lindbergh scored 7.4 points per game with 6.0 rebounds in 35 games.  Lindbergh and sophomore Nathan Rindels both appeared in all 35 games last season.

The Defenders are coached by Ross Douma who is entering his fifth season as Dordt College head men’s basketball coach.

Midland is the pre-season favorite with 93 points in the poll and five first place votes.  The preseason picks for second through fifth place are separated by just five points.
