Dordt Soccer Hosts Hastings Saturday

GAMETIME…  The Dordt Defenders host Hastings on Saturday, October 19.  The women’s game will start at 1:00 and the men will get underway at about 3:15.  Audio play by play of the games can be heard at www.dordt.edu/athletics. SCOUTING REPORT… The Hastings women are 4-1 in the GPAC and 8-4-1 overall.  The Hastings’s loss in the conference is to Morningside and that loss was part of a three game losing skid with the other losses to Grand View and Nebraska-Kearney.

Hastings has outscored teams 36-18 and has outshot teams on goal 142-65.  Megan Kruse has a team high 10 goals with six assists and Amanda Olson has eight goals and four assists and Kelsey Nealon and Maddie Michalek each have five goals.  Brittany Toth has played 928 minutes in goal with 13 goals allowed and 34 saves and she has allowed a 1.29 goals per-90 minutes average.

The Hastings men are 11-2 overall and stand 4-1 in the conference at the midpoint of the league season.  The Hastings men have lost to Bellevue and Midland by scores of 3-1 and 2-0. The losses came in the span of three games.
Hastings has outscored teams 21-12 this season and has outshot teams on goal 95-75.  Thomas Boss has six goals and four assists and Jake Ramsay has four goals.  Alex Guyer has played 1177 minutes in goal and has allowed 12 goals with 55 saves and averages less than a goal allowed per-90 minutes.
 

DORDT COLLEGE NOTES… The Defender women are 0-13 this season and are 0-5 in the GPAC. 

Dordt is led by Nicole Postman’s four goals.  The Defenders have 32 shots on goal this season and have surrendered 155 shots on goal.  Katie Kortman has played 1053 minutes in goal and has allowed 42 goals while facing 134 shots on goal.  Kortman has 92 saves this season.

The Defender men are 1-3-1 in the GPAC and 3-9-1 overall.  Dordt has a win over Concordia in league play and a tie with Dakota Wesleyan.  Dordt has lost two in a row to Briar Cliff and Morningside in league play. 

The Defenders have been outscored 28-18 this season and have 58 shots on goal to 98 for opponents. 

Eric Grootenboer and Brady Van Holland each have five goals scored this season and Derick Sackey has three.  Van Holland is also Dordt’s top assist man with three this season. Jon Brinkerhoff has played 737 minutes in goal and has allowed 18 goals with 45 saves made for a 2.2 goals allowed per-90 minutes played.  Joey Rasnic has played 472 minutes in goal and has allowed ten goals with a 1.91 goals per-90 minutes played average.

THE SERIES… The Defender women are 7-15-2 in the series.  Hastings won the October 27 meeting last season by a 6-0 score in Hastings.  The Broncos had 21 shots on goal as Emily Holz made six saves out of 11 shots faced in the first half and Kortman had nine saves in ten shots faced.  Nicole  Bernhardt had two goals and an assist for Hastings.

The Defenders and Hastings have met 17 times since the formation of the Great Plains Athletic Conference in 2000 and the Defenders are looking for their first win in the series against the highly regarded national power.  Last season the Defenders took a 1-0 lead on a Josh Brinkerhoff goal in the 21st minute but Hastings answered with a pair of Jordan Green goals in the 54th and 58th minutes.  Hastings then put the game away with a Felix Proessi goal in the 67th minute.

LAST TIME… The Dordt women lost a 5-0 decision to Morningside on Saturday, October 12 while the Defender men lost a 3-1 decision with Brady Van Holland scoring in the 78th minute on a penalty kick.  Both men’s teams had four shots on goal.

The Hastings Broncos played to a 1-1 stalemate with Baker on Wednesday night in women’s play.  The Broncos held a 1-0 lead with four minutes to go and allowed a Baker goal that sent the game to overtime and the eventual 1-1 tie after an extra 20 minutes of play.  Michalek had Hastings’s goal in the 65th minute and Brittany Toth made five saves.

The Hastings men beat no. 14 Baker on Wednesday 1-0 behind a goal from Leon Brudy.  The goal came in the 74th minute and proved to be enough as Hastings outshot the Wildcats 8-4.  Alex Guyer had four saves in the win.

NEXT UP…… Hastings will travel to Doane on Wednesday, October 23 and has four games remaining in the league after this contest.

Dordt will host Northwestern on October 22 in the next action for both the women and the men before traveling to Doane College in Crete, Nebraska on Saturday, October 26.
