Blades Play Three Games in Colorado

The games…the Blades take to the road this week as they travel to Colorado for an extended road trip.  Dordt is looking to rebound from a pair of home losses to Iowa this past weekend when they take on Northern Colorado on Thursday, Colorado State on Friday and the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on Saturday.  Thursday’s game will begin at 7:30 pm in Greeley, Friday the puck will drop at 7:30 PM in Fort Collins and the final game of the journey will start at 6:30 PM in Colorado Springs.

The Opponents…Northern Colorado is 6-1-1 on the year and the Bears are currently enjoying a four game winning streak.  The lone losses for the Bears came at the hands of Colorado State as the Rams picked up a shoot-out win over Northern Colorado before shutting them out 4-0 the next day. The Bears have scored 46 times this season while giving up just 25 goals and UNC has an unblemished home record at 5-0.

Mike Tabrum and Cody Thompson top the scoring chart for the Bears with 13 points each.  Owen Rauer has played all but one game in goal for Northern Colorado and has a 2.86 goals against average and a .890 save percentage.

Colorado State is 6-2 so far this year and their two losses are against teams from the challenging ACHA North Region, falling to Hope and Calvin by identical 5-2 margins. The Rams have knocked in 49 goals while conceding 23.

Jake Christofferson has a team high 18 points on twelve goals and six assists.  Nicholas Church has played in goal for six of the Rams’ eight games and enjoys a 2.72 GAA and a .930 save percentage with one shut-out.

The University of Colorado-Colorado Springs  is off to an 0-5 start this year, with two losses at home and three on the road.  The Mountain Lions have given up 49 goals while scoring 18 this year and twice UCCS has given up ten or more goals, with a 12-2 loss to Northern Colorado and a 13-4 loss to Colorado State.

Scott Turner has three goals and three assists to lead the Mountain Lions in scoring with six points.  Three different players have spent time between the pipes for UCCS with Zach Parker posting the best GAA of the three with a 9.00. 

The Blades…are 2-2 on the year, starting the season with wins over Augustana (IL) by scores of 4-1 and 7-2 before dropping a pair of games at home to the University of Iowa Hawkeyes by scores of 3-2 and 3-1.

Dylan Van Dyk and Nic Enerson both have five points for the Blades with Enerson having a team leading four goals and one assist while Van Dyk has two goals and three assists.

Riley Braun has a 1-2 record in goal with a 2.69 goals against average and a .910 save percentage.

History…the Blades have played Northern Colorado just three times in the past ten years with Dordt falling in all three contests but the two teams have not played each other since 2007.  Dordt has played Colorado State on four previous occasions with the Rams coming away with all four wins.  Colorado State will also be visiting Sioux Center as a participant in the Clash in the Corn.

Dordt has never played the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs prior to this week.

Last time out…Northern Colorado beat Wyoming 8-5 and 5-2  on October  18 and 19.  Colorado State defeated UCCS 9-3 on October 18.

New conference affiliation…the Dordt Blades have joined the Mid-America Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA) which has schools in two separate divisions (Gold and Silver) and Dordt College will be a part of the Silver Division.  Western Conference schools include:  Iowa, Iowa State, University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Missouri State (D3), Nebraska and Dordt.
The top two teams from the North, Central and West will make the playoffs, plus 2 wild card spots determined by winning percentage. 

The Coaches…John Langeraap begins his first year as Head Coach of the Blades after serving for four years as an assistant.  Langeraap helped the Blades to their third straight American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) D3 National Tournament in 2010 and has been involved with hockey for more than 40 years. Langeraap was
involved with the Sioux Center Hockey Association (SCHA) at its inception in 2003, and he has served as the association’s board president while also coaching at multiple levels in the SCHA prior to becoming an assistant for the Dordt Blades.
Langeraap will be assisted by Jon Gesink.
