GPAC Post-Season Soccer Bracket Released
November 4, 2013
The 2013 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Postseason Men’s Soccer Tournament will open on Wednesday, November 6, with four quarterfinal matches across the conference. The Dordt College Defenders are the number eight seed in the field after winning two games last week to finish the conference year 3-6-1. Dordt will travel to Hastings, Nebraska on Tuesday for a 6:00 pm quarterfinal round contest.
Hastings, after finishing the regular season with a 9-1 GPAC record and 27 points will be the number one seed in the eight team tournament. Midland with 26 points in the regular season is the number two seed, Doane is the three seed with 22 points and Northwestern will be the fourth seed and final quarterfinal host after totaling 22 points in the regular season (Doane defeated Northwestern head-to-head). The five-eight seeds are Concordia (18 points), Dakota Wesleyan (13 points), Morningside (12 points), and Dordt (10 points). Three points are awarded for every conference win, one for each tie, and no points for a conference loss in the GPAC standings.
Dordt and Hastings played on October 19 with the Broncos prevailing 1-0 in Sioux Center.
The winner of the GPAC Tournament will advance, as the league’s only automatic representative, to the NAIA National Men’s Soccer National Championship Opening Round (on Saturday, November 23). The GPAC is allotted one automatic berth this year because the conference is below 12 NAIA teams in the postseason (10 teams).
Sixteen teams will advance to the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship Final Site in Montgomery, Alabama, December 2 - December 7, 2014, at the Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex.
