Three Dordt Football Players Earn Scholar-Athlete Honors

(Friday, December 20; Sioux Center, Iowa)  Three Dordt College football players earned Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2013 season in an announcement by the NAIA on Friday, December 20.

Seth Vande Voort (Senior; Urbandale, Iowa); Sam Verhulst (Senior; Milwaukee, Wisconsin) and Rocklen Mouw (Junior; Meridian, Idaho) claimed the honor while playing for Dordt College. Vande Voort and Verhulst are repeat honorees. 

Vande Voort adds the honor to a list that includes him being a two-time All-GPAC second tea selection and a 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete.  Vande Voort leaves Dordt as the career tackle leader for the Defenders.  Vande Voort is a Health-Human Performance major.

Verhulst claims the honor for the second time and is a Business Administration and Accouting major.  Verhulst was an honorable mention all-GPAC selection this season.

Mouw is majoring in Agriculture and was a wide receiver on this year’s Defender team.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Friday that 259 football student-athletes were named 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

In order to be nominated by an institution’s head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
