April 20, 2014
Two Dordt College vocal students reached the finalist round—the highest honor—of the Lewis and Clark Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition. The competition, held on Saturday, April 5, at Briar Cliff University, included teachers and students from Fort Dodge, Spencer, Sioux City, and Sioux Center.
The Dordt students who proceeded to finals and sang at the Honors Recital are sophomore Marshall Fynaardt (New Sharon, Iowa) who was accompanied by sophomore Nathan Walter (Norfolk, Nebraska), and senior Rachel De Boer (Sioux Center, Iowa) who was accompanied by senior Craig Disselkoen (Cedar Rapids, Iowa). Fynaardt and De Boer received a certificate and a monetary award.
Senior Tia Nieuwsma (Sioux Center, Iowa), accompanied by junior Monica McConnel (Maurice, Iowa), sang in the Honors Recital. Freshman Anna Krygsheld (Lansing, Illinois), accompanied by freshman Lauren Vermeer (Lansing, Illinois), sang in the music theatre division.
“All of the students represented Dordt College very well and received many favorable comments from the judges,” said Pam De Haan, voice and saxophone instructor at Dordt College.
