Men's Golf At Yankton

Meet… The Defenders will compete in the Lancer Invite at Hillcrest in Yankton, South Dakota on Friday, August 28. The meet was scheduled for Thursday and Friday but Thursday's play was cancelled due to predicted rain. 

Participants… Dordt, Morningside, Briar Cliff, Dakota Wesleyan, Hastings and Mount Marty will all send competitors to the early season, two-day event.

Last Time Out… The Dordt College Defender men's golf team shot a 321 at GPAC #4 at Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton. South Dakota. The finish was good for eighth place in the 11-team event and the Defenders were one shot out of seventh place held by Northwestern. Midland won the event with a 301 and Nebraska Wesleyan was second with a 303 on the par-72, 6,997 yard course.

Nathan Middel carded a 77 to lead Dordt and finished 12th in the 55 man field. Madison Moss recorded a 78 for 20th and Derek Fox and Trey Hugen each recorded an 83 for Dordt's final two scores.

Nate Middel was Dordt’s only golfer to compete in all four rounds and had a 329 which placed him 29th in the individual standings.

The Defenders finished in a tie for 8th with a four round total of 1313. Nebraska Wesleyan carded a 1225 and won the event and Midland was second with a 1239 and will advance to the national meet.

At This Event…April 24, 2014 the Defenders competed in a one-day event hosted by Mount Marty at Fox Run. 

The Dordt College men's golf team finished sixth out of 12 teams and totaled a 311 which was two short of Dakota Wesleyan's 309 and Morningside's fourth place finish of 308. Northwestern won the event with a 298 and Midland was second with a 300.

Madison Moss, Derek Fox and Matthew Moen all had scores of  77 which put them in a tie for 18th out of 64 golfers. Trey Hugen finished with an 80 on a day where Ryan Kiewiet from Northwestern carded a 68 for medalist honors.

The Lineup… Dordt’s top returners include Madison Moss with a 79.5 average in 13 rounds of play.  Trey Hugen and Micah Roos both recorded averages between 81 and 82.  Roos shot an 81 average in nine rounds while Hugen had an 81.6 average in 14 rounds of play.  Rees Beaver played in nine rounds and had an average of 83.1.

After This… Dordt will host day one of the Siouxland Invite on Thursday, September 4 at The Ridge in Sioux Center.  Day two of the event will be played in Orange City at Landsmeer.
