Dordt Cross Country No. 3 In Poll

(Thursday, August 28; Sioux Center, Iowa)  The Dordt College Defender women’s cross country team claimed the no. 3 ranking in the 2014 NAIA Women’s Cross Country Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll released late Wednesday, August 27.

The Defenders tallied 546 points and one first place vote in the voting done by 21 coaches representing conferences, independents and unaffiliated groups.  The Defenders won the GPAC title in 2013 and finished sixth at the NAIA National Championship in Lawrence, Kansas.  The Defenders return their top five national finishers--Lauren Opp, Kayla Byl, Renee Buikema, Abby De Vries and Lillie Koerner, from that squad.

Biola (California) is the no.1 team in this poll and took 12 first place votes and 580 points.  Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) was no. 2 with 573 points and six first place votes.  GPAC member Doane is no. 16 in the voting and took 272 points.

Dordt opens the season on September 5 at a nighttime meet hosted by Augustana in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
