Many prospective teachers say they're considering the teaching profession because they like working with kids. That's what drew Education Professor Tim Van Soelen to teaching, too. He now thinks it's only part of the reason to go into teaching, but he believes that it led him to discover the right reasons.

"After a year in the teacher education program at Dordt, I realized that 'liking kids' was a good start, but great teachers must have a love for who they teach, what they teach, and how to teach," he says.

Developing all of these "loves" is what the Dordt teacher education program is all about. Great teachers choose appropriate content, use engaging instructional strategies, and shape a purposeful learning environment. Great teachers embrace the opportunity to have a lasting impact on young lives and play a critical role in helping prepare their students to live and serve in God's world. Since its start as a teacher's college in 1955, Dordt College has prepared hundreds of great teachers for this task.
