Running With Heart

Josiah Luttjeboer still remembers running with the track team when he came for a campus visit day as a high school student. It was his first college track workout, and he has loved the experience ever since. His first words when he received his acceptance letter were, “Sweet! Dordt, I want to run there!” Josiah was a stellar athlete in high school, and at Dordt he has been a four-time All-American in track.

Josiah has found many opportunities to grow in his character, faith, and personality while at Dordt. One of the first things that Josiah noticed about Dordt College was its highly regarded education program. A majority of Josiah’s teachers in high school were graduates of Dordt College and encouraged him to apply to the teacher education program.

Luttjeboer appreciates the professors here, too. He says, “The professors really want you to be successful. They care about you very much. They even care about your social life.”

Josiah’s favorite memories of his four years at Dordt are are going to IHOP at 2:30 a.m., participating in and watching Dordt College sports, and “Dordt Walks.” Dordt Walks are code for getting away from the watchful eyes and ears of roommates. These walks eventually led to his engagement to Rachel De Jong.

Josiah enjoys Dordt’s sense of community and has felt at home here. “Everyone is always on campus; you walk to class and see everyone, and there’s always stuff going on throughout campus.”
