Sara Alsum-Wassenaar holds an MFA in New Media from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a BA in Psychology and Art from Hope College, and a Masters of Education from Grand Valley State University.  In the summer of 2012 she rode the Empire Builder train from Chicago to Portland and organized stops along the way to meet with local historians and ceramic artists.  During this trip she conducted object based research while filming and interviewed many people along the way.  This project resulted in a collection of objects, journals, images and several short narrative based films.  Her summers during grad school were spent working on an organic farm and selling produce at the local Farmer's Market.  Her market style artwork makes its way into a variety of non-traditional art venues.  Sara was selected to conduct programing at the MDW Fair in November 2012 and her work was recently published in Plot magazine.
