Dordt Track Qualifies Pair For Nationals

(Wednesday, January 16; Sioux Center, Iowa)  Two Dordt College athletes met the automatic qualifying standard for the NAIA National Championship Meet to be held February 28-March 2 at Geneva, Ohio.

Briana Vander Woude (Senior; Clara City, Minnesota) qualified in the 55 meter hurdles and high jump on Saturday at a meet hosted by the Defenders.  Katie Bonnema (Junior; Ireton, Iowa) qualified in the 400 meters in the first meet run by the Defenders this winter.

Bonnema’s time of :58.53 was under the required :59.10 to earn a berth at the national meet while Vander Woude’s time in the 55 meter hurdles was :08.23, under the needed time of :08.53.  Vander Woude also cleared 1.64 meters (5’4.5”) in the high jump which is the also the height for the automatic qualification.

The Defenders will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska on Friday, January 18 for their next meet.
