GPAC Softball Poll Released

(Wednesday, January 30; Sioux Center, Iowa)  The 2013 Great Plains Athletic Conference Softball Coaches’Poll has been released.

The Dordt College Defenders, 20-24 overall and 10-10 in the GPAC in 2012, are picked sixth in the poll with 59 total votes.  Morningside, winners of the post-season GPAC tournament, took seven first place votes and are the pre-season pick with 95 points.

Dordt College opens the 2013 season at a tournament hosted by Friends University in Wichita, Kansas on March 1.  The Defenders open their home season on March 20 in a non-conference tilt with Buena Vista and play their GPAC opener on March 23 on the road at Concordia.

Dordt College’s top returner is Ashton Beaird with a .339 batting average, 41 hits, eight doubles, seven homeruns and 25 runs batted in.  Sidney Larson is the top returning pitcher after posting a 9-11 record in 117 innings pitched.

Here is the complete GPAC Softball preseason coaches’ poll.  Points are assigned on a 10-1 bases and coaches’ may not vote for their own team in the poll.
