Vander Woude Claims GPAC Crown

February 15, 2013

Briana Vander Woude (Senior; Clara City, Minnesota) scored a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) record 3652 points on Friday to repeat as champion in the Pentathlon at Doane College on day one of the 2013 GPAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.  Vander Woude, last year's GPAC Indoor Athlete-of-the-Year, broke Jillian Ourada from Doane's record of 3437 points set in 2011.

Ourada placed second this year with 3621 points over five events.  The five events that are scored in the pentathlon are the 55 hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump, and the 800 meters.

Vander Woude ran a time of 8.23 in the 55 hurdles, jumped 5-05 in the high jump, posted a shot put mark of 37-11.25, a jump of 17-07.5 in the long jump, and concluded the mulit-event with a clocking of 2:35.85 in the 800 meters.  Vander Woude picks up ten points in the team scoring for the Dordt women for her performance on Friday at Fuhrer Fieldhouse.

Vander Woude's shot put performance was a personal best and her high jump mark was her best this season.
