High School Band Festival at Dordt College April 19

April 8, 2013

The biennial Dordt College High School Band Festival will be held Friday, April 19, at 7 p.m.

Nine bands from Christian high schools in Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin will participate in the festival. Each school will perform individually in the B.J. Haan Auditorium, and the Dordt College Concert Band and Campus-Community Band will also perform.

For the conclusion of the festival, more than 500 student performers and the audience will make their way to the DeWitt Gymnasium for a mass band performance under the direction of Dordt College Professor of Music Bradley Miedema. The mass band will perform Orion by Jan Van der Roost, Whither Must I Wander by Ralph Vaughan Williams, On A Hymnsong of Lowell Mason (setting of My Faith Looks Up to Thee) by David R. Holsinger, and Trail of Tears by James Barnes.

The high school students will spend the day on campus rehearsing and attending sectionals led by the Dordt College music faculty.

The concert is free and open to the public.
