Dordt students perform in singing competition

Sixteen Dordt College students will participate in the Lewis and Clark National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition on Saturday, April 20. The competition will be held at Western Iowa Technical College in Sioux City, Iowa.

The following singers will participate: Seniors Joanna Bevaart (Lacombe, Alberta), Maria Bouwkamp (Pella, Iowa), Mia Kornelis (Sioux Center, Iowa), Peter Kuipers (Patte, South Dakota), and Tia Nieuwsma (Sioux Center, Iowa); juniors Leanna Bentz (Platte, South Dakota), Jon Hageman (Highlands Ranch, Colorado), Rachel Kooiman (Doon, Iowa), and David Visser (Oskaloosa, Iowa); and freshmen Marshall Fynaardt (New Sharon, Iowa) and Christy Gallagher (Hornick, Iowa).
The following Dordt College students will participate as piano accompanists: Freshmen Joni Van Den Top (Rock Rapids, Iowa) and Nathan Walter (Norfolk, Nebraska); sophomore Monica McConnel (Sioux Center, Iowa); and seniors Craig Disselkoen (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and Matthiew Hoogland (Maurice, Iowa).

Approximately 300 Dordt students participate in the college’s music program, with opportunities to perform in four choral groups, two orchestras, and three bands.
