Defender Baseball Has Pair Named Scholar-Athletes

(Thursday, May 30; Sioux Center, Iowa) The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that 266 baseball student-athletes have been named 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.  Two Dordt College baseball players are on that list.

Sam De Nooy (Junior; Sully, Iowa) and Anthony Maule (Junior; Vulcan, Michigan) both earned the honor for the first time in their careers.  De Nooy is a Biology major while Maule majors in Engineering.

De Nooy appeared in 19 games for the Defenders this season and Maule played in 17 games and scored nine runs.

In order to be nominated by an institution’s head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
