Dordt Soccer At Dakota Wesleyan Tuesday

GAMETIME… The Dordt Defenders travel to Mitchell, South Dakota to face Dakota Wesleyan on Tuesday, October 1. The women’s game starts at 6:00 and the men’s game will get underway at 8:15. SCOUTING REPORT… The Dakota Wesleyan women are 0-1 in the GPAC and 3-5-1 overall. The Tigers lost to Nebraska Wesleyan on September 20 by a 4-2 margin in their only GPAC game of the season. The Tigers are 2-2 in their last four games with wins over Presentation and Grace and losses to William Penn and Nebraska Wesleyan. To of Dakota Wesleyan’s wins this season are over Presentation.
The Tigers have been shut out twice and have won by shut out once. The Tigers have been outscored 21-18 this season and have been outshot on goal 97-93. Thara Ali Said has a team high eight goals and Linsey Peterson has three goals. Said’s three assists top the Tigers. Erika Carpenter has played 796 minutes in goal with 21 goals allowed and 71 saves made. Carpenter’s goals allowed per-90 minutes played average is 2.37.
The Dakota Wesleyan men are 6-2-1 this season and 1-0 in the GPAC with a 1-0 win over Nebraska Wesleyan to their credit. Wesleyan has won two games in a row over Grace and Presentation. The Tigers are 1-1 in games decided by one goal and they have been involved in a double overtime tie that was scoreless with Jamestown.
The Tigers have outscored opponents 20-12 this season and have outshot opponents on goal 80-62. Chaz Foss has five goals and Mike Haight four. Sam Roberts has scored three goals and Carlos Mora has a team high five assists. Alex Nelson has played 605 minutes in goal and has allowed eight goals with 38 saves made. Eric Fjerestad has played 221 minutes in goal and has a 1.63 goals allowed average with four goals allowed and eight saves made.
DORDT COLLEGE NOTES… The Dordt women’s soccer team is 0-9 this season and 0-1 in the GPAC with the loss coming to Midland on Saturday.
Nicole Postman has three goals for the Defenders this season and the Defenders have 40 shots with 26 on goal. Katie Kortman has played 695 minutes in goal and has allowed 30 goals while making 66 saves and she has a 3.88 goals allowed per-90 minutes played average.
The Defender men are 2-7 this season and 0-1 in the GPAC with a 3-1 loss in the conference coming to Midland on Saturday. Dordt is 2-2 in its last four contests.
Dordt has been outscored 23-15 this season and outshot 80-40 on goal.
Eric Grootenboer and Brady Van Holland each have four goals scored this season for team honors and Derick Sackey has scored three goals. Mason Davis and Brady Van Holland each have two assists. Jon Brinkerhoff has played 537 minutes in goal with 36 saves and has a 2.68 goals allowed per-90 minutes played average. Joey Rasnic has played 292 minutes in goal with a 2.16 goals allowed average while making 21 saves and allowing seven goals.
THE SERIES… The Dordt women are 4-2-1 in the series and the two teams played to a 1-1 double overtime tie last season. Katie Kortman scored a goal in the 71st minute to tie the game and Emily Holz preserved the tie with seven saves.
The men’s series is tied 4-4 with Dordt winning in overtime last season 3-2. Eric Grootenboer scored two goals including the golden goal in the 93rd minute to give Dordt the win. Brady Van Holland tied it off an assist by Scott Van Wylen in the 85th minute. Brinkerhoff had six saves in goal for the win.
LAST TIME… Dakota Wesleyan beat the Presentation women 3-2 in double overtime on September 26. Presentation scored the first two goals of the game in the 24th and 55th minutes before Wesleyan scored two goals in the 73rd and 79th minutes to force overtime. Alexis Wilde scored a goal in the 102nd minute to give Wesleyan the win in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Carpenter made 12 saves in goal for the win.
The Dordt women were outshot 9-5 on goal by the Midland Warriors on Saturday and lost a 3-0 decision. The Defenders were down 2-0 at halftime before Midland got an insurance goal in the second half. Katie Kortman made six saves in goal for the Defenders.
Dakota Wesleyan beat Presentation 5-1 last week with five different players scoring goals. Fjerestad made seven saves in goal while securing the win.
Dordt lost to Midland on September 28 by a 3-1 score after trailing 2-1 at halftime. Dordt’s goal came in the 28th minute when Grootenboer scored to make it 2-1. Midland struck for a goal in the 14th minute and again in the 18th minute.
NEXT UP……Dakota Wesleyan will travel to Hastings on Saturday for its next contest before returning home to face Morningside on Wednesday, October 9.
Dordt is scheduled to travel to Concordia in Seward, Nebraska on Saturday, October 5. After that the Defenders return home and will face Briar Cliff on Wednesday, October 9.
