DEFENDER DAYS

Overview

Defender Days is a campus-wide celebration on October 14 and 15, 2016. This weekend is the biggest event on campus as students, alumni, and parents celebrate Dordt College and reunite on campus for home sporting events, concerts, the fall theatre production, and much more. Watch for more information as it becomes available.

Thursday, October 13

3–5 p.m.                Early bird registration, Campus Center lobby

Friday, October 14

6:45 a.m.               Business Connections Breakfast, Campus Center. Dave Van Belle, President of  Van Belle Nursery, Abbotsford, BC. Dordt Alumnus ’94 will be speaking on the Great Game of Business.

8 a.m.–7 p.m.        Registration, Campus Center Lobby. You’ll want to do this early in the day so that you can pick up your nametag (free pass into many events), an updated schedule of events, and get your questions answered.

8 a.m.–3 p.m.        Visit classes, professors are expecting you; just walk in.

9:30 a.m.              Campus Tour. Meet at registration desk in the Campus Center lobby.

11 a.m.                     Chapel, B.J. Haan Auditorium

2 p.m.                     Campus Tour, meet at the registration in the Campus Center.

3 p.m.                     Small Music Festival, B.J. Haan Auditorium. Concert includes Jazz Band, Kantorei, and Bella Voce. 

4:30 p.m.              The Goheen Gallop 5k Fun Run, Location to be announced. Participants receive a free race t-shirt. Awards given to age group winners. Refreshments provided. Entrance fee is $20. Pre-register online on the registration form.

4:30 p.m.              Blades Hockey Alumni vs. Alumni, All Seasons Center. Tentative, please sign up on the registration page.

5:30 p.m.              Classes of ’91–’94 25-Year Class Reunion, Founders Room in the President’s House. Are you an alumnus or alumna from the classes of 1991 to 1994? Be our guest at the 25th class reunion to reminisce with old friends and take in the ever-changing campus community. President Erik Hoekstra will host a reception for class members and a guest. RSVP is requested via online registration.

7 p.m.                     Men’s Varsity Volleyball, De Witt Gymnasium

7 p.m.                     Fall Music Festival, B.J. Haan Auditorium. Concert includes Campus-Community Band, Concert Band, Chamber Orchestra, Chorale, and Concert Choir. A freewill offering will be received.

7:15 p.m.                Blades Hockey vs. Northern Illinois, All Seasons Center. Tickets can be purchased at the Blades table in the Campus Center or at the door.

10 p.m.                   Late Night with the Defenders, De Witt Gymnasium. Take in an inter-squad women’s and men’s basketball scrimmage plus half-time entertainment, introduction of players, and more. The women will begin at 10 p.m. and the men follow. Admittance is $1, with proceeds going to charity.

Saturday, October 15

8 a.m.–noon          Registration, Campus Center lobby

8:45–10:15 a.m.   President’s Brunch, Rec Center. This sit-down meal is for alumni, parents, grandparents, and adult friends/relatives of our current students. It’s a great place to meet other parents and friends and includes a welcome from President Erik Hoekstra and Dr. Barb Hoekstra.

8:45–10:15 a.m.   Siblings Brunch, Campus Center. This activity is designed for pre-school to high school weekend guests. Meet promptly at 8:45 a.m. in the lower level of the Campus Center. The group will walk together for a complimentary breakfast in the Commons and then participate in age-appropriate activities (crafts and game room). Please pick up younger children by 10:30 a.m. in the lower level of the Campus Center. Reservations are appreciated.

11:15-noon             DC Broader Vision Seminars

11 a.m.                     Blades Hockey vs. Northern Illinois, All Seasons Center. Tickets can be purchased at the Blades table in the Campus Center or at the door.

11 a.m.                       The Dordt College Pep Band welcomes alumni to join them at rehearsal for the football game. Please bring your own instruments. Weather permitting, rehearsal will be held in the football field home bleachers. You are also invited to join us for lunch at the PLIA tailgate (freewill donation) following rehearsal. 2 p.m.                     Organ Showcase Recital, B.J. Haan Auditorium. This concert is presented by students and faculty.

3:15 p.m.                Men’s Soccer vs. Concordia, soccer field

3:30 p.m.              JV Women’s Volleyball vs. Concordia, De Witt Gymnasium, White out game (fans are encouraged to wear white)

4-5 p.m.                Art Reception for Naomi Friend, with an artist talk at 4:15, Campus Center Art Gallery

4:15 p.m.               Blades Hockey vs. Alumni, All Seasons Center. Tentative, please sign up on the registration page.

5 p.m.                     Defender Nation Dinner,  Campus Center. Join us to celebrate how alumni are working for Christ-centered renewal around the world. The featured speaker is our 2016 Distinguished Alumni, Yvonne (Vaags) Kimm (’98) and Jason Kimm (’98).  Alumni, students, faculty, parents, grandparents, and friends are encouraged to attend. Dress is business casual; tickets are $10.

5 p.m.                     Sowers Lacrosse Alumni Game, football field
