What is it? IDEAS (Investigating, Discovering, and Excelling in Academics and Service) is for highly motivated and talented high school students. The program provides students with four days of investigations, practice and performance in computer science, mathematics/statistics, media, mock trial, or theatre involving fun activities, projects, and hands-on explorations, all while being mentored by Dordt faculty.
When is it? Plan to arrive on Dordt’s campus the evening of Monday, June 15. After checking into the dorms and receiving a brief orientation that evening, you will be ready for four days of learning and fun. On Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday you will participate in a variety of workshops, activities, and talks related to topics in your chosen area of interest. Interspersed throughout your day will be time for team-building and other fun activities on and around the campus of Dordt College. You will depart at approximately 2 p.m. on Friday, June 19.
Application process for Media Camp has been closed.
If you like math, then this camp is for you! We'll explore a variety of topics in mathematics and statistics that you won't see in high school, with an eye towards the many highly-rated job opportunities that await students with God-given passion and interests in mathematics.
The Mock Trial Camp is an opportunity to practice oral advocacy skills in a simulated court environment. Students will learn basic rules of evidence and take on the roles of prosecutors, defendants, and witnesses while arguing their way through a simulated trial. If you’ve ever watched Law & Order, Suits, or any other courtroom dramas and thought “I want to do that!”, or if you’ve ever felt the desire to question someone’s ability to handle the truth, then this is the camp for you!
Application process for Theatre Camp has been closed.
Computers are a involved in many parts of our lives, but few of us understand how they really work. In this week-long summer camp, we’ll explore the inner workings of computers—from transistors to programming—and learn how the hardware and software work together to enable the technology we use every day.
Who should participate? High school students who are current freshmen, sophomores, or juniors (depending on the camp) are encouraged to apply. Be prepared to join a like-minded peer group and take to heart the motto “Work Hard. Play Hard.” Students should plan to arrive on Dordt’s campus the evening of Monday, June 15, and depart late afternoon on Friday, June 19.
Am I the kind of person you're looking for? We anticipate accepting a diverse set of students to the program. If you have a passion for learning, have done well in your courses, and are excited to spend a few days having fun and learning, then, yes!
When should I apply? The preferred placement application deadline has passed. There are still some spots available in the camps, so please submit your application as soon as possible.
When can I expect to hear about my application? Our hope is to contact those accepted to the program in early/mid-March. At the time you are accepted to the program, you will be asked to pay the registration/program fee. Travel support (both financial and logistical) may be available for students travelling from a distance. Contact email@example.com for details.
Who is leading the program? Dordt College faculty from various departments will lead the program. Additionally, we will include a select number of high school teachers and others as learning facilitators. They will stay in the dorms and participate in all activities as group leaders.
What is the cost of the program? The IDEAS program fees range from $125 to $225, depending on camp. This will cover room, board, and related expenses during the five-day program. Applicants will be asked to pay the fee upon acceptance to the program.
