PRAIRIE

Restoration

Restoration projects like Dordt's prairie help to preserve unique species of wildflowers and grasses; provide habitat for birds, butterflies, and other wildlife; and provide local residents with a chance to enjoy a diverse mix of wildflowers and grasses and learn to appreciate their beauty as part of God's creation.

The prairie's curator, Dordt Environmental Studies Professor Robert De Haan, explained the importance of this project saying, "God has been active in this world for a long time in some significant and surprising ways. He has shaped this landscape and the world around us. It didn't just happen to be. It was shaped by God and shaped in such a way that it could support a wide array of plants and animals that we call prairie. That's a lot of what this project is about."
