I joined the Dordt College faculty in 1983. My doctoral work was in experimental condensed matter physics. I teach Introductory Physics, Modern Physics/Quantum Mechanics, Classical Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, and Perspectives in Physical Science and am the chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy. While I was trained in experimental condensed matter physics, my current research interests include light-scattering studies of polymer structure and physics/science education. In the past I have served as a NASA Summer Faculty Fellow and a science education consultant. Currently, I am the past president of the Iowa Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers and serve as the Iowa representative on the national council of the American Association of Physics Teachers.
