Dordt College students spend semester studying off campus

For many Dordt College students, taking part in an off-campus program is an essential part of their education. Not only does a summer or semester away allow students to see more of the world, but they are able to immerse themselves in a new culture and learn from people of varying backgrounds.

This semester, 38 Dordt students are spending the semester studying and working or interning off campus:

Chicago Semester: Sarah Bakker (Everett, Washington), Victoria Carlson (Marana, Arizona), Jordan Edens (Kennewick, Washington), Mandy Faber (Bethell, Washington), Victoria Johnston (Tucson, Arizona), Corey Muilenberg (Elkhorn, Nebraska), Liz Sabourin (Shoreham, Vermont), Aanna Stadem (Sioux Falls, South Dakota), Kelsey Terveen (Emery, South Dakota), Katie Timmerman (George, Iowa), Cait Vaags (Abbotsford, British Columbia), Amy Van Voorst (Grand Rapids, Michigan), Esther Verwoerd (Hamilton, Ontario), and Kelly Zatlin (Chula Vista, California).

Film Studies Center, Los Angeles: Kelley De Jong (Orange City, Iowa).

(Australia Studies Centre: Callie Aswegen (Parkersburg, Iowa).

Scholars’ Semester in Oxford, England: Caroline Eckstrom (Stanton, Nebraska) and Danielle Richards (Grand Island, Nebraska).

SPICE: Studies Program in Contemporary Europe, the Netherlands: Josina De Raadt (Oakdale, California), Jonny Grotenhuis (Gilbert, Arizona), Michael Hilt (Orange City, Iowa), Ashley Hoekstra (Blomkest, Minnesota), CoriAnn Kalsbeek (Stephenville, Texas), Kristyn Mensonides (Mabton, Washington), Brian Miller (Iowa City, Iowa), Ashleigh Minderhoud (Airdrie, Alberta), Amanda Oliver (Mount Vernon, Washington), Michelle Palmer (Wayne, New Jersey), Kristin Scholten (Inwood, Iowa), Becca Van Dam (Manhattan, Montana), Michael Van Dixhoorn (Sioux Center, Iowa), Dallas Van Gelder (Manhattan, Montana), and Vero Visser (Asuncion, Paraguay).

Trinity Semester in Spain: Jana Van Zanten (Pella, Iowa).

Uganda Studies Program: Mary Du Mez (Brookfield, Wisconsin).

Semester in Zambia at Northrise: Aaron Spronk (Edgerton, Minnesota).

Last semester, 17 students participated in national off-campus programs to Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C., and in international programs in the Middle East, Spain, Kenya, and Zambia.
