Dordt College welcomes new faculty and staff

Dordt College welcomes new faculty and staff to campus.
Eric Forseth, provost. Forseth has a B.A. from Northwest Nazarene University, an M.S. from University of Arizona, and a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. He did additional postdoctoral studies at Harvard University. Forseth worked as superintendent at Nampa Christian Schools in Nampa, Idaho, and has more than 25 years of experience in higher education, including working as superintendent/CEO, vice president, director, and department chair in various institutions.
Howard Wilson, vice president for enrollment. Wilson has a B.S. in business administration with an industrial management emphasis from LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas, and an M.Div. and honorary doctor of divinity from Providence Theological Seminary in Otterburne, Manitoba. He has 25 years of experience in higher education and worked as president at Ambrose University College and Seminary in Calgary, Alberta.
Allan Bickle, assistant professor of mathematics. Bickle has a B.S., an M.A., and a Ph.D. in mathematics from Western Michigan University. Bickle has been teaching there since 2005. He is moving from Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Luke Hawley, assistant professor of English. Hawley has a B.A. in English education from York College and an M.F.A. in creative writing from the University of Nebraska. He worked as an adjunct instructor at North Central University, Minneapolis Media Institute, Herzing University, and Arts Institute International.
Luralyn Helming, assistant professor of psychology. Helming has a B.S. in psychology from California Polytechnic State University, an M.A. and Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of South Dakota.
Yurii Henríques, instructor of music. Henríques has a B.A. in music from Hampshire College, an M.M. from the University of Massachusetts, and a six-year equivalent at the Hartt School in Music Education. He joins the music department for the 2013-14 academic year as a replacement for Bradley Miedema, who is on leave for graduate studies.
Amy Van Beek, instructor of nursing and clinical outreach coordinator. Van Beek has a B.S. in nursing from the University of Iowa and an M.S. in nursing from Walden University. She has been working at the Orange City Area Health System as a same day surgery nurse.
Channon Visscher, assistant professor of chemistry. Visscher has a B.A. in chemistry from Dordt College and an M.A. and Ph.D. in earth and planetary sciences from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He worked as a research scientist at Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colorado.
Current faculty in new roles
Andy Schuttinga, instructor of psychology. Schuttinga has a B.A. in psychology from Dordt College and an M.S. in counseling and student personnel from Minnesota State University. Schuttinga has been an adjunct faculty member since 2007.
Kae Van Engen, instructor of communication. Van Engen has a B.A. in communication from Dordt College and an M.A. in communication and leadership studies from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. Van Engen has been an adjunct faculty member at Dordt College since 1990.
Kailee Adams, admissions counselor. Adams has a B.A. in political science in the pre-law program from Dordt College. She has worked as a legal assistant in a law firm in Arizona and as an intern at a law firm in Chicago.
Allison Berkompas, Stepping Stones lead teacher. Berkompas has a B.A. in elementary education from Dordt College. She worked as a preschool/daycare teacher at Doodlebugs Learning and Daycare Center in Rock Valley.
Laura Berkompas, technical director and technical theater instructor. Berkompas has a B.A. in theater arts from Dordt College and an M.F.A. from the University of Idaho. She worked as lighting designer/master electrician and set designer for various productions in Washington, Idaho, and South Dakota.
Derek Buteyn, learning community area coordinator. Buteyn has a B.A. in exercise science from Dordt College. He has worked as a residential program instructor for Hope Haven, is a member of the Sioux Center Ambulance, and is a certified emergency medical technician.
Adam Conway, assistant football coach and instructor in the health and human performance department. Conway has a B.S. in education and human science from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and an M.A. in higher education from Geneva College. He has worked at Geneva College as an instructor of kinesiology, biomechanics, and weight training.
Scott De Jong, computer hardware technician. De Jong has an A.A.S. in computer programming from Northwest Iowa Community College. He worked as a manufacturing technician at Sioux Automation and as the I.T. Help Desk contact at Diamond Vogel Paint.
Brittany De Ruyter, biology and chemistry lab instructor. De Ruyter has a B.A in biology from Dordt College. She worked as a research associate with Sanford Research in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Daniel Finley, admissions counselor. Finley has a B.A. in business administration: marketing from Dordt College. Finley worked as an assistant football coach and as an auto, home, and life specialist for State Farm Insurance in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Julie Gross, administrative assistant for admissions. Gross has a B.A. in elementary education from Dordt College. Gross moved from Englewood Colorado where she taught at Southeast Christian School.
Gayle Haarsma, administrative assistant for advancement. Haarsma has an A.A. degree from Dordt College and a B.A. degree from Calvin College. She worked as the office coordinator and administrative assistant for the Alger Park Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Sarah Hawley, Stepping Stones Preschool para educator. Hawley has a B.A. in psychology and education from York College. She worked as a senior behavior therapist at the Lovaas Institute Midwest in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Brandon Huisman, director of alumni and external relations. Huisman has a B.A. in business administration: marketing from Dordt College. Huisman worked as an admissions counselor at Dordt College and as an account executive with Agency Two Twelve in Sioux Center.
Derek Keizer, assistant men’s basketball coach and instructor in the health and human performance department. Keizer has a B.A. from Dordt College in physical education and recreation, and a coaching endorsement and an M.Ed. in educational leadership from Dordt College.
Sarah Moss, career services coordinator. Moss has a B.A. from Dordt College in English literature. She has been working as the administrative assistant in Dordt College’s Andreas Center for Reformed Scholarship and Service.
Cindy Nederhoff, math, statistics, and computer science department assistant. Nederhoff has a B.A. in business administration from Dordt College. She has worked at Dordt College as a theater arts assistant and the coordinator of financial support at KDCR Radio. She also worked as bookkeeper for Jim’s Digging Service.
Deb Oolman, housekeeper. Oolman has worked as a homemaker and self-employed residential cleaner.
Monique Schiebout, Bookstore coordinator. Schiebout has a B.S.W. in social work from Dordt College. She has worked at Sioux Center Community Hospital and Health Center as a medical social worker in the outpatient memory clinic.
Hannah Smolders, Stepping Stones Preschool lead teacher. Smolders has a B.A. in Spanish and elementary education from Northwestern College. Having worked as a teacher, tutor, and translator, Smolders most recently worked at the Sioux Center Public Library as the bilingual story hour leader and at Sioux Center Middle School and High School as the ESL translator and tutor.
Angela Van Essen, Stepping Stones para educator. Van Essen has a B.A. in elementary education from Dordt College. She worked as a stay-at-home mom and as a teacher at Hull Christian and Calvin Christian School in Edina, Minnesota.
Rachel Verwolf, alumni and parent relations coordinator. Verwolf has a B.A. in marketing and business administration from Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She has worked as a professional photographer as well as working in customer service, marketing, and social media with American State Bank.
Stacey Zylstra, housekeeper. Zylstra worked at Nemschoff as an upholstery trainer.
