Dordt Volleyball Advances In NAIA National Field

The Dordt College Defender volleyball team advanced to the NAIA National Championship Final Site field with a 25-22, 25-16, 19-25, 25-19 in an NAIA National Championship Opening Round contest at the De Witt Gym in Sioux Center, Iowa.
The two teams played even volleyball in set one with 14 ties up to 18-18. A service error by Paige Quinones gave Dordt a lead they wouldn’t relinquish as the Defenders scored two more points on a kill by Brooke Wolterstorff and an attack error by the Wolves. Up 21-18, Dordt was able to play side out volleyball, fighting off two surges by Cardinal Stritch where the visitors were able to cut the gap to one on two different occasions. Dordt scored the winning point on a Cardinal Stritch ball handling error and the Defenders were up 1-0.
Set two had Dordt pull away to a 19-12 lead with a six point run and the Defenders breezed to the 25-16 win as Brooke Wolterstorff recorded the set winner with a kill.
Dordt looked well on their way to a win in sweep fashion as they were up 17-13 in set three. The Wolves came alive to tie it at 17-17 with a four point run. A Meghan Krausman kill slowed the run but Cardinal Stritch scored back to back points on a Quinones kill and a Dordt attack error. Dordt was unable to tie it again and lost a 25-19 final.
Set four was similar with Dordt leading 5-0 early and holding a 17-10 lead. Cardinal Stritch scored the next three points to make it 17-13 and Dordt called a timeout. A Brooke Wolterstorff kill stopped the run and the Defenders went on score two more points for a 20-13 lead and Cardinal Stritch never got closer than 23-19 as Dordt went on to win their 23rd match of the season.
Dordt had 63 kills and hit for a .321 kill efficiency with 54 digs and eight points off of blocks. Cardinal Stritch had 50 kills and hit for a .237 kill efficiency and had 49 digs and seven points off blocks.
Jenna Horstman and Brooke Wolterstorff had 15 kills each for the winners while Elizabeth Kiel had 10 and Lindsey Floen nine. Kayla Gesink added six kills and had 48 assists. Kayla Brokehuis got to 20 digs and Brooke Wolterstorff had 13 digs and two service aces. Floen had five block assists and Gesink three and Kiel and Woltestorff were both in on three blocks as well.
Cardinal Stritch was led by Monique Morris and Jasmine King with 11 kills each while Paige Quinones and Amanda Aalpoel had nine kills each. Kelsey Johnson and Tori Burke had 21 and 18 assists respectively and Morris had 14 digs.
Dordt is 23-7 and awaits its assignment for the Final Site stage of the National Championship which begins with pool play on Tuesday, December 3 at the Tyson Event Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Cardinal Stritch ends its season with a 28-13 record after qualifying for the National Championship field with the second berth out of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
