NISO auditions September 5 and 6

August 11, 2014

Auditions for membership in the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra will be held on Friday, September 5, and Saturday, September 6, in the Music Building on the campus of Dordt College. Anyone wishing to play in the orchestra for the first time must audition and all student members need to re-audition each year.

The Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra is comprised of some of the finest musicians in northwest Iowa and southeast South Dakota. The orchestra’s more than 80 members include adults of all ages as well as gifted students ranging in age from high school through college. Each year several students who audition receive scholarships from the Friends of the Symphony for the purpose of continuing their private music instruction.

NISO presents three concerts per season in addition to the annual Concert for Children, which will be held on November 18 for area 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students. Now entering its 29th season, this year’s concert series is titled Symphonic Colors with conductor Christopher Stanichar leading the orchestra.

Highlights of this season will include a Fall Concert, November 18, highlighting the Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre performance of Peter and the Wolf by Prokofieff; a Winter Pops Concert, January 31, featuring the music of Gershwin by vocalist Spider Saloff; and a Spring Concert, April 7, with the music of Tchaikovsky and guest artist Anthony Arnone on cello. NISO will conclude the concert series with a Guest Concert by Rhythm and Brass on April 18.
