Educational Tax Credits
Although Dordt College cannot provide formal tax advice, we encourage students and parents to access or obtain the following resources to assist in determining eligibility for tax credits:
- Publication 970, Tax Benefits for Higher Education. This publication can be obtained at any IRS office or downloaded from the Internet at http://www.irs.gov/publications/.
- Notice 97-60, Education Tax Incentives. This notice addresses specific questions that taxpayers may have concerning eligibility for tax credits. The Notice is available here.
- A comprehensive website covering tax credits created by the U.S. Department of Education at http://www.ed.gov/offices/OPE/PPI/HOPE/.
Under the provisions of the TRA97, Dordt College is required to report to the student and the IRS certain information concerning student status on a tax statement referred to as Form 1098-T. A copy of this tax statement will be mailed to students' home addresses on or before January 31.
