Craig Stiemsma started coaching the Dordt women’s team in 2007-08 and has a 71-78 record in five seasons. The Defenders have won a GPAC playoff game in four of the five seasons Stiemsma has been coaching. His 2009-10 team won 19 games, matching the highest single season win total in program history.
Prior to his women's basketball appointment, Stiemsma coached the Dordt College men's soccer team to a 38-36-1 record in four years and two berths in the NAIA regional tournaments.
Stiemsma has extensive experience working at several basketball camps in the Midwest and serving as a guest clinician and speaker on several occasions. Prior to coaching at Dordt College Stiemsma coached several sports at Western Christian in Hull, Iowa, while teaching at the school. He coached the Western girls basketball team to a state tournament berth in 2000.
Stiemsma is currently the health and human performance department chair. He earned a doctorate from the University of South Dakota in 2010.
