Five Football Players Named Scholar Athletes

December 11; Sioux Center, Iowa) Five Dordt College Defender football players earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors released on Tuesday, December 11.
Jordan Huisman (Senior; Orange City, Iowa), Jon Luetchens (Senior; Murdock, Nebraska) and Patrick Visscher (Senior; Sioux Center, Iowa) are all repeat honorees while Sam Verhulst (Junior; Milwaukee, Wisconsin) and Seth Vande Voort (Junior; Urbandale, Iowa) earn the honor for the first time.
Huisman is a business administration major and Visscher majors in accounting and business administration. Luetchens claims the honor while majoring in agriculture/biotechnology. Verhulst is a finance major and Vande Voort is an exercise science/sports management major.
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced 259 football student-athletes have been named 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Cumberland (Tenn.) leads all institutions with 16 individuals on the list.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete mush maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.
