Lacrosse Hosts Bethel

Dordt hosts Bethel Saturday
The Dordt College lacrosse team will kick off the second half of its season Saturday when they host the Bethel Royals at 1:00pm.

The game will be played at the Sioux Center Christian School soccer field.

Last Time Out:
Dordt suffered an 8-7 loss at the hand of the Carleton Knights back on March 2. In a game highlighted by outstanding goalie play on both sides, the Sowers found themselves down 5-1 entering the final quarter. Dordt rattled off six goals to tie it up at 5, 6, and 7 but were unable to come up with the victory when Carleton put in the go-ahead goal with 22 seconds left.

Mark Opp led the team with six points recording three goals and three assists. Nate Weigel chipped in three goals and an assist to Seth Borchard who scored his first goal. Opp and Joel Kranenburg scooped up a game-high 10 groundballs. Jesse Anderson had eight groundballs and Dirk Oudman contributed 6. Keeper Jordan Yntema continues to build on a strong season with 17 saves recorded for a .680 save percentage.

This week:
Dordt College owns the series with the Royals, taking two of three contests. Bethel’s first win in the series came last year; an 11-4 decision.

Bethel has played only one game this season; a 13-6 loss to North Dakota State. Peter Gosen recorded six points in that game with two goals and four assists. Mitch Killian recorded three goals. Keeper Jeremy Funk made 18 saves, recording a .581 save percentage.

Mark Opp leads the team on offense with his five goals and four assists this season. Nate Weigel has put in four goals and dished out one assist. Drew Johnson has scored one goal. Nathan Opp and Jesse Anderson each have recorded an assist.

Jordan Yntema has a .712 season save percentage and defensemen Dirk Oudman and Jordan Harmelink have picked up six groundballs each.

Next up:
Dordt will travel to Mount Vernon, IA to take on Cornell and Judson on Saturday March 30.
