Dordt College social work department earns reaccreditation

July 15, 2013

The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) has awarded full reaccreditation to the Dordt College social work department through 2021. Dordt College offers a four-year bachelor of social work degree.

CSWE’s site visitors said, “The program is clearly student-centered with themes of an appreciation of student input present in most of the conversations held throughout the day. …The faculty demonstrated excellent rapport with the students and a genuine respect for student input.”

They also noted that “the program’s goal to encourage ‘students and the community to engage in service by responding to needs and challenging injustices’ is also a firmly held religious value of the college and in the community in which the college is situated and resonated as a theme throughout the day spent with the program.”

“We feel incredibly affirmed in CSWE’s recognition that we deliver a high quality education that equips our students for professional social work practice,” said Dordt College Assistant Professor of Social Work Abby Foreman. “The program is recognized for its direct connection to the mission of Dordt College—to equip students in the work of Christ-centered renewal by loving our neighbors and working toward redemption in a broken world.”

“Dordt College’s social work program provided me with a holistic, well-rounded framework with which to enter the world of social work,” said recent graduate Cassie (Lane) Zonnefeld. “The professors were knowledgeable, well-versed, and came from a variety of backgrounds and professional experiences.”

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, social work employment is projected to grow at a higher than average pace in the next 10 years, with most growth taking place in health care and social services settings. Learn more about social work at Dordt College at
