Dordt College presents concerts in December

’Tis the season for music and celebration! All are invited to enjoy an array of musical experiences offered by Dordt College ensembles. All performances will be held in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.
The Dordt College Choral Ensembles Concert will feature Bella Voce, Kantorei, and Concert Choir, all under the direction of Dr. Benjamin Kornelis, on Friday, December 6, at 7:30 p.m. The concert will feature a variety of music, from Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck to Jingle Bells.
The Dordt College Chorale performs the biennial Service of Lessons and Carols on Sunday, December 8, at 8 p.m. This special event will include readers Teresa Ter Haar and Bruce Kuiper, a brass quintet, organist MaryLou Wielenga, pianist Lauren Vermeer, and instrumentalists Leanna Bentz on the harp, Mia Kornelis on the violin, and Rachel Vande Griend on flute.
The Chamber Orchestra and Jazz Band will perform under the direction of Yurii Henriques on Tuesday, December 10, at 7:30 p.m. The orchestra will perform the Christmas Concerto by Arcangello Corelli and “Mother Ginger” from The Nutcracker. The Jazz Band will perform classics, including Only You and Stardust.
On Friday, December 13, the Dordt College Concert Band and Campus-Community Band will perform classics including Grainger’s Lincolnshire Posy, Reed’s La Fiesta Mexicana, Tichelli’s Shenandoah, and Sousa’s The Liberty Bell. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Nearly 20 percent of the Dordt College student body participates in the music program. Students have opportunities to perform in four choral groups, two orchestras, and three bands.
