NISO and NISYO concerts and auditions held in April

NISYO concert April 12
Come to the B.J. Haan Auditorium on Saturday, April 12, at 3 p.m. for the Spring Concert presented by the Northwest Iowa Symphony Youth Orchestra. Featuring works by Bach, Beethoven, Dvorak, Handel, and more, the group is directed by Yurii Henriques.

NISYO consists of middle and high school string students from the surrounding area. The concert is free and open to the public.

NISO concert April 15
The Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra will present its annual Spring Concert on Tuesday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. NISO will also hold a Visual Art Auction in the lobby during the concert.

NISO concludes The Year of the Composer with works by three of the most beloved composers of all time: Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms. After opening with Beethoven's rousing Consecration of the House, NISO will feature its principal musicians in the virtuoso solo parts for violin, flute, oboe, and trumpet of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 2. The concert ends with Brahms' Symphony No. 2, inspired by the composer's visit to the Austrian Alps.

The Spring Concert will also feature the unveiling of the 2014-15 Season of the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra. Season tickets for next year will be offered that evening for a special discounted price.

The Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra is comprised of the finest musicians in the tri-state area. Teaching principals are of a professional caliber and function as first chair players and teachers in sectional rehearsals. The orchestra membership includes adults of all ages as well as gifted music students from area high schools and colleges. Four of the high school students in NISO receive scholarships to continue their private lessons. NISO present three concerts per season in addition to the annual Concert for Children for 900 area 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students.

Audition for NISYO April 26
Northwest Iowa Symphony Youth Orchestra (NISYO) auditions will be Saturday, April 26, in the Dordt College Music Building. Now completing its seventh season under the direction of Yurii Henriques, NISYO is currently a strings-only ensemble that includes students ranging in age from middle school through high school.

NISYO presents two concerts per season in the BJ Haan Auditorium on the campus of Dordt College.
