Devour a good book during Dordt College library week

April 7, 2014

Dordt College is hungry for some creative and tasty entries in the popular Edible Book Contest to be held on Friday, April 18, at the Dordt College John and Louise Hulst Library. The contest, held for the first time in partnership with the Sioux Center Public Library, is the culmination of National Library Week celebrations.

Anyone interested in participating in the contest is asked to bring an edible entry to the Hulst Library on the campus of Dordt College on Friday between 7:30 and 10 a.m. Entries can refer to a scene or a character from a book, look like a book, or just have something to do with books. The contest is open to all amateur bakers, cooks, and decorators (no professionals, please).

Past entries have ranged from a cake with icing to meatloaf with green eggs and ham on top. All viewers are welcome to cast a vote for the People’s Choice entry from 10 to 11 a.m. and noon to 1:30 p.m. in the library’s Study Café. The library will be closed from 11 a.m. to noon for a Good Friday Chapel.

The results of your voting will determine the winner of the People’s Choice Award. Judges will determine the winners in the Best Tasting and Best Overall categories. The winners will be announced at 2:30 p.m., after which forks will be handed out and everyone will be invited to taste the entries.
