Ideafest is celebration of academic accomplishments

April 21, 2014

Dordt College invites the community to join a celebration of academic achievement and scholarship at Ideafest, an afternoon filled with presentations, art projects, performances, and documentary films, all researched and created by Dordt students.

“Ideafest is a truly multidisciplinary event, where students majoring in psychology, engineering, biology, English, art, agriculture, and more all present their research and scholarship,” says History Professor Paul Fessler.

Approximately 160 students—the largest number of participants ever—will give presentations during the annual festival to be held on Thursday, April 24, from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

Presentations are 15 minutes each, which includes time for questions. Those attending are free to wander from one presentation to another, as there are usually six going on at the same time throughout campus.

Some students will display poster presentations that visitors can view and discuss with those who did the research.

“In an academic community like Dordt College, where students and faculty are constantly wrestling with ideas and dreaming up dreams both big and small, it’s so important to have a venue where those ideas can be shared,” says Mark Volkers, professor of digital media production.
