Check out our Facebook page Tuesday through Thursday to see our students' interpretations of Defender Days and cast your vote for a winner each day. Then on Friday, join with the Defender Nation in the camaraderie of Spirit Day!

Thursday, October 17

3–5 p.m. Early bird registration, Campus Center Lobby

7:30 p.m. The School for Scandal (Fall Theater Production), TePaske Theatre (located in Sioux Center High School)

10 p.m. Praise and Worship, Campus Center

 

Friday, October 18

6:45 a.m. Business Connections Breakfast, Campus Center. Connect with other alumni and friends of the college in the business world by asking questions and discussing relevant issues that Christians in business face today. The event is free and includes a light breakfast. RSVP requested via registration form

8 a.m.–7 p.m. Registration, Campus Center Lobby. This should be your first stop on campus. Pick up your nametag (free pass into many events), an updated schedule of events, and get your questions answered.

8 a.m.–3 p.m. Visit classes. Stop by registration to get schedules/locations for all classes. Professors are expecting you; just walk in.

9:30 a.m. Campus Tour. Meet at registration in the Campus Center Lobby.

11 a.m. Chapel, B.J. Haan Auditorium

2:30–3:30 p.m. Meet the faculty, lower level of the Campus Center.

3 p.m. Campus Tour. Meet at registration in the Campus Center Lobby.

3 p.m. Small Music Festival, B.J. Haan Auditorium. Jazz Band, Kantorei, and Bella Voce. Free admission with your nametag.

4:30 p.m. The Goheen Gallop 5k Fun Run, All Seasons Center. Participants receive a free race t-shirt with awards to age group winners. Refreshments provided. Entrance fee is $20. Pre-register online on the registration form

5:30 p.m. Class of ’88 Reception, President’s House. Are you an alumnus or alumna from the class of 1988? Be our guest at the 25th class reunion to reminisce with old friends and take in the ever-changing campus community. President Erik Hoekstra will host a reception at the president's newly renovated home (formerly the Alumni House) for class members and a guest. RSVP is requested via online registration.

6 and 7:30 p.m. Women’s JV vs. Alumni Volleyball Game, De Witt Gymnasium. Your nametag is your free pass. These matches pair former Defender greats against the newly minted JV squad. Take in the action with friends and family or join in the fun! Former players can sign up to play on the registration form.

7 p.m. Fall Music Festival, B.J. Haan Auditorium. Concert includes Campus-Community Band, Concert Band, Chamber Orchestra, Chorale, and Concert Choir. A freewill offering received.

7:30 p.m. Blades Hockey vs. University of Iowa, All Seasons Center. Tickets can be purchased at the Blades table in the Campus Center or at the door.

9–10 p.m. Standing Reception, Rec Center. Be our guest at this free standing reception and meet other parents, alumni, and friends.

9:45 p.m. Awards for Defender Days "Theme Days" Contest. De Witt Gymnasium. Top contestants in our Facebook contest will be in costume and prizes will be awarded.

10 p.m. Late Night with the Defenders, De Witt Gym. Take in an inter-squad women and men’s basketball scrimmage plus half-time entertainment, introduction of players, and more. The women will begin at 10 p.m. and the men follow. Admittance is $1, with proceeds going to charity.

10:30 p.m. Comedy League, B.J. Haan Auditorium. Free admission with your nametag.

 

Saturday, October 19

8 a.m.–noon Registration, Campus Center Lobby.

8:45–10:15 a.m. President’s Brunch, Rec Center. This sit-down meal is for parents, grandparents, and adult friends/relatives of our current students. It's a great place to meet other parents and friends and includes a welcome from President Dr. Erik Hoekstra and his wife, Dr. Barb Hoekstra. The meal is complimentary, but because it is attended by 600 to 700 guests, please RSVP on the registration form before you arrive on campus.

8:45–10:30 a.m. Siblings Brunch, Campus Center. This activity is designed for pre-school to high school weekend guests. Meet promptly at 8:45 a.m. in the lower level of the Campus Center. The group will walk together for a complimentary breakfast in the Commons and then participate in age-appropriate activities (crafts and Game Room). Please pick up younger children by 10:30 a.m. in the lower level of the Campus Center. Reservations are appreciated.

10:30 a.m. Sowers Lacrosse Alumni Game, Dordt College soccer practice field.

10:45-11:45 a.m. DC Broader Vision Seminars.

"Lost in India" Video Project. Learn how missions and Dordt College professors and students join forces to put together a video/marketing campaign called "Lost in India." Get in on how projects are put together and how filming onsite works. Presenter: Mark Volkers, Dale Vande Griend, and Jayson Korthuis. Location: Ribbens Academic Complex, Digital Media Lab, classroom CL1310.

Using Data in Decision Making. Using data to make informed decisions is the "new normal: in sports, business, genetics, music, and more. Explore the strengths and limitations of this trend in our society as well as see some specific examples of student-faculty collaborative research in genetics, psychiatry, and education. Presenters: Nathan Tintle and students. Location: Ribbens Academic Complex, classroom CL1318.

Dordt's Electric Car Demonstration (10:45-11 a.m.). Learn how this car was modified to run on electricity and how it performs every day. Presenters: Doug De Boer and students. Location: In front of the Campus Center.

1 p.m. Women's Soccer vs. Hastings, Dordt Soccer Field.

1 p.m. The School for Scandal (Fall Theater Production), TePaske Theatre (located in Sioux Center High School).* 

2 p.m. Showcase Organ Recital, B.J. Haan Auditorium. This concert is presented by students and faculty. Free admission with your nametag.

3:15 p.m. Men’s Soccer vs. Hastings, Dordt Soccer Field

4–6 p.m. Angel | Beast Art Exhibit and Reception, Campus Center Art Gallery. Featured Artist and Dordt Art and Design Professor Jake Van Wyk will speak about his work at 5 p.m.

4:15 p.m. Blades Hockey vs. University of Iowa, All Seasons Center. Tickets can be purchased at the Blades table in the Campus Center or at the door.

5:30 p.m. Distinguished Alumni Banquet, Campus Center. Each year the college honors alumni who live out a Reformational worldview. We invite alumni and friends to join us in honoring and celebrating their efforts at the banquet that includes a short program. RSVP requested on the registration form. Business formal attire. Tickets are $10.

6 and 7:30 p.m. Alumni Men's Basketball Game, De Witt Gymnasium. Alumni play Dordt's JV team at 6, followed by an alumni vs. varsity game at 7:30. Alumni basketball players can sign up to play on the online registration form. Admittance is $1, with proceeds going to charity.

* Tickets to the theater production, The School for Scandal, can be purchased beginning September 16 online. Ticket prices are $7 for adults, $4 for students. Tickets will also be available at the door.
