From its small class sizes and top-notch rankings to its Christian perspective and grassroots atmosphere, Canadian native Frank Bulk knew Dordt College was the place he wanted to be. But what Frank didn’t know when he enrolled in 1993 was that Dordt would provide him with amazing opportunities that reach beyond campus and the classroom.

Frank double-majored in mathematics and computer science. His course of study, combined with a job in Dordt's computer services office as college network administrator, prepared him for his future career.

"My experience at Dordt was exactly what I needed at the time," Frank said.

During spring break of his senior year, Frank visited the Caribbean island of Aruba, and while he was there, he came across a small business in need of a networking specialist. After graduation, he started working at Aruba Digital Systems as a systems analyst, integrating software solutions with the company's network and toolset.

Today, Frank is the technology and product development manager at Premier Communications, a telecommunication provider in Sioux Center. At Premier, his responsibilities include implementing new technologies like 4G mobile broadband and IPv6 with the company’s current network.

Besides developing the skills Frank would need for his jobs, Dordt also provided him with excellent opportunities for social and cultural development, such as the study abroad program SPICE, where he lived in the Netherlands for a semester.

“Living in the Netherlands was an amazing experience," Frank said. "It was relaxing and character building. Plus, I was able to visit my grandmother, who lived about 20 minutes from school.”

Currently, Frank is continuing his education by completing a master's degree in telecommunications and network management through Syracuse University's online program.
