A top-lit up-draft (TLUD) cook stove uses pyrolysis to gasify biomass. This gasification results in low emissions and lower fuel consumption than a traditional “three-stone” open fire. The design of this TLUD biomass cookstove follows principles of appropriate technologies for use in rural Zambia by recognizing social, economic, and environmental constraints.
