Life at Dordt College
While Dordt College is located in Iowa, students at Dordt come from across North America and the world. Campus is filled with students from different places coming together into a dynamic and welcoming community. Dordt is home to international students from 30 countries, including the following:
International Student Orientation
International Student Orientation (ISO) is your introduction to life as an international student at Dordt College. This orientation will help you adjust culturally, socially, and academically to life and studies in America.
You will do many things during ISO: Hear from student panels, learn about the academic system at Dordt, set up a bank account, worship together, take English placements tests, play games, and meet many new friends!
Students Without Borders
Students Without Borders organizes events to promote and celebrate diversity on campus. You can become a member by signing up during the Taste of Sioux Center event or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Both American and international students are welcome and active in the club. Look for monthly events like bonfires, potlucks, and game nights, as well as campus-wide events such as the Cultural Fair and International Fashion Show. You’ll want to get involved!
Host Family Program
Because adjusting to life in America can be difficult, Dordt's international office sets up American host families for the international students. These host families do not provide housing or financial support, but they are there to help make you feel welcome and involved in the life of a local family. Many students become close with their host families and find that this is a wonderful addition to their life in America.
"There are no words to describe how happy and grateful I am to meet such wonderful host parents. They have been very supportive and loving in so many ways. Even though I have already graduated from Dordt, I still keep in touch with them because they are my 'mom' and 'dad' in the U.S." – Harah Sun, 2008 Dordt grad
