Dordt College has been ranked fifth on the U.S. News and World Report’s (USN&WR) 2012 list of Best Regional Colleges in the Midwest. Dordt was honored with the highest ranking of any college in Iowa on the Best Regional Colleges list.

“The fact that we are firmly established in the top five in recent years demonstrates Dordt College’s commitment to academic excellence,” said Dordt College President Dr. Carl E. Zylstra. “We are grateful that our peers recognize the great value of a Dordt College education.”

For the second time, Dordt was named to the “A-plus Schools for B Students” category as one of a handful of high-achieving Midwest regional colleges where “nonsuperstars” can thrive and succeed academically. Students at Dordt College have extensive access to dedicated professors, and Dordt’s Aspire program offers an opportunity for motivated students to benefit from a Dordt education.

“We appreciate many national publications recognizing what our faculty, staff, alumni, and our supporting community have known for many years: that Dordt College is an outstanding choice and a great value, with teaching and a campus culture built around a worldview focused on Christ as Savior, Redeemer, and King,” said Dordt College Provost Erik Hoekstra.

Dordt College is enjoying its highest enrollment in a decade and has also has been recognized recently as one of America’s best colleges by, the Princeton Review, and Washington Monthly.

This year marks the 20th year in a row Dordt has been on the Best Regional Colleges list and the eighth time the college has placed in the top 10. This year, the category measures the top 75% of all colleges in the region – 97 schools in 12 states, from Kansas to Ohio, that focus on undergraduate education in liberal arts and professional fields such as business, nursing, and education. Colleges are ranked on factors such as freshmen retention rates, graduation rates, student-to-faculty ratios, and alumni giving rates.

Dordt College offers an excellent, Christian college education to more than 1,400 students from more than 30 states and 17 foreign countries.

The 2012 America’s Best Colleges special issue is available on newsstands Sept. 20. All ranking information is available on the USN&WR website at, where copies of the Best Colleges guidebook may also be purchased.
