Dordt College to help with cleanup following tornado in Branson, Missouri

March 7, 2012

This story contains updated information.

The Dordt College men’s basketball team will be traveling to Branson, Missouri, next week to play in the NAIA Division II National Tournament. In the wake of the devastation left behind by the recent tornadoes in Branson, employees, alumni, and friends of the college have been working with Meg Pyron of the First Presbyterian Church of Branson, Missouri, to plan a service project helping pick up debris and tree limbs. The church said that many low income areas were hit the hardest, so volunteers will be working in those areas.

Volunteers are planning on working Wednesday morning, March 7, before the Dordt game, and if the team plays on Friday, the group can also work on Thursday. If you will be following the team to Branson and would like to contribute to the cleanup efforts with Dordt College, please contact either Barb Mellema (712-722-6005) or Deb Hulstein (712-722-6020) for further details. Volunteers must wear serviceable shoes and work gloves. As more details become available, they will be posted on the Dordt College website.

Update on March 7, 2012

The Dordt College work group will be meeting Thursday morning (March 8) at 8:15 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 65 and Highway 248 (Red Route) instead of the church.
