Blades To Join Mid-America Collegiate Hockey Association

March 30, 2012

The Dordt College Blades will join the Mid-America Collegiate Hockey Association beginning next season. The 2012-2013 membership will be probationary with the Blades expecting to become full members the following year.

The MACHA has schools in two separate divisions (Gold and Silver) and Dordt College will be a part of the Silver Division.  With the addition of three new schools (Lewis, Nebraska and Dordt) and Kansas being moved from Gold to Silver the MACHA elected to form a Western Conference, of which Dordt will be a part.

Schools in the West will include:  Iowa, Iowa State, University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Missouri State (D3), Kansas, Nebraska and Dordt.

The top two teams from the North, Central and West will make the playoffs, plus 2 wild card spots decided on winning percentage.  Lewis, Western Illinois, Nebraska and Dordt are all probationary teams and therefore will not be eligible for playoffs in 2012-2013.

"This is a very solid and well run organization," stated Dordt Head Coach Bill Elgersma, "it is highly structured and extremely professional and we anticipate being full members in 2013-2014."

In 2011-2012 the Blades had no conference affiliation after departing from the North Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
