Dordt named a “Best in the Midwest” college by Princeton Review

August 27, 2012

The Princeton Review has again named Dordt College to its 2013 “Best in the Midwest” colleges list. Dordt is one of just 153 institutions named to the list, and one of 633 colleges named to its lists throughout the country.

“We’re pleased to recommend Dordt College to users of our site as one of the best schools to earn their undergrad degree. We chose it and the other terrific institutions we name as ‘regional best’ colleges mainly for their excellent academic programs,” said Robert Franek, Princeton Review’s senior vice president and publisher. “We winnowed our list based on institutional data we collected directly from the schools, our visits to schools over the years, and the opinions of our staff, plus college counselors and advisors whose recommendations we invite.”

Also factored into the rankings are comments from students. Princeton Review asks students to fill out an 80-question survey asking them about professors, classmates, and campus life.

A Dordt biology major commented that classes are intimate and that “the professors have an opportunity to get to know the students. It is impossible to fall through the cracks.” Another student said Dordt “goes above and beyond what most colleges do when it comes to finding you an internship or a job after graduation.” That assertion is demonstrated by Dordt’s consistent 97 percent placement rate (students who find jobs or go on to graduate school within six months of graduation).
