Soccer Off To Mount Mercy Wednesday

GAMETIME… Dordt College will be traveling to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to face Mount Mercy in women’s and men’s soccer on Wednesday, September 12. The women’s game will get underway at 5:00 and the men start at 7:00.
SCOUTING REPORT…Mount Mercy is 3-3-1 this season and snapped a two game losing streak with a win over Holy Cross (Indiana). The Mustangs are getting outscored 15-10 this season and have been outshot 87-68 total and 50-47 on goal. Kandice Kiernan and Haley Rinaldi have a team high four goals each and Taylor Eaker has assisted on two goals. Jerica Christensen has played 569 minutes in goal with 15 goals allowed for a 2.37 goals-per90 average. Christensen has 34 saves.
Mount Mercy is 2-3-1 this season in men’s play with wins over Waldorf and Rochester (Minnesota). Mount Mercy has been outscored 18-14 this season and have been outshot 101-81. The Mustangs have also been outshot on goal 49-35. Juan Maffey has three goals scored and Aaron Lacy has two goals scored. Enrique Cortina has three assists to top the team. Vucko Velickovic and Harrison Burgess have split the goalkeeping duties this season with Velickovic has allowed 11 goals with ten saves with a 3.39 goals per 90 minutes played and Burgess has made six saves with a 2.27 goals per 90 minutes played.
DORDT COLLEGE NOTES…The Defender women are 0-3-1 this season after suffering a pair of losses last weekend to Avila and Missouri Baptist. The Defenders have been outscored 13-5 this season and have been outshot 42-21 on goal. Allison Hogan has three goals this season and an assist to lead Dordt offensively. Katie Kortman has logged 380 minutes in goal and has made 29 saves and has a 3.08 goals per 90minutes played average.
The Dordt men are 3-1 this season with a loss to Avila last weekend. Dordt has outscored opponents 12-6 and have outshot teams 42-22 on goal. Josh Brinkherhoff has a team high four goals and three other players have two goals each—Derick Sackey, Steven Talsma and Scott Van Wylen. Talsma also has a two assists. Jon Brinkherhoff has played all the minutes in goal and has allowed six scores for a 1.46 goals allowed per-90 minutes played average.
THE SERIES… The Dordt College women are 2-0 all-time against Mount Mercy. Dordt won last year’s meeting 4-1. Rindy De Nooy scored twice while Kelly Smies and Allison Hogan each had one for the Defenders in a season opening win. Mount Mercy’s goal came from Ameliea Parris in the 74th minute to avert the shutout. Dordt outshot the Mustangs 10-5 on goal.
The Defender men trail the series 2-1 with their win coming last year at home by a 2-0 count. Derick Sackey and Phil Nywening each scored one goal in the win and Dordt outshot Mount Mercy 18-8.
LAST TIME… The Mount Mercy women were beaten 2-0 by Columbia on Saturday leading up to the 5-0 win over Holy Cross. The Mustngs were outshot 39-4 against Columbia. Christensen had 11 saves in goal for Mount Mercy and the Mustangs did not get a shot on goal.
Columbia beat the Mount Mercy men 6-2 on Saturday, September 8. Columbia had a 20-9 shot advantage. Sid Beck and Ramiro Alonso both had their first goals of the season in the loss.
The Dordt women lost a 3-1 decision to Missouri Baptist on Saturday. The visitors scored two goals late to pull away from a 1-1 tie. Allison Hogan had a goal in the 64th minute to tie it. Dordt was outshot 11-10.
The Defender men scored three second half goals to win 4-1 over Missouri Baptist. Josh Brinkherhoff had two goals and Eric Grootenboer had a goal and an assist. Jon Brinkherhoff made three saves in goal in the win.
NEXT UP…… The Mount Mercy women will play Harris Stowe State on September 15 while the men will host Dakota Wesleyan that same day.
The Defenders will host Jamestown on Saturday afternoon, September 15. The women’s game will start at 3:00 and the men at 5:00.
