U.S. News & World Report recognizes Dordt College for academic excellence

September 12, 2012

For the third year in a row, Dordt College is the top-ranked regional college in Iowa, according to U.S. News & World Report. Dordt ranks 6th among top tier colleges in the Midwest on the magazine’s 2013 Best Regional Colleges list.

Dordt College President Dr. Erik Hoekstra sees the ranking as a validation of the good work Dordt College students and employees continue to do.

“It’s good to have external confirmation of our work in areas that we think are important and that matter to others,” Hoekstra said. “But a Dordt education is about much more than the measurements and data used to analyze and create college rankings; Dordt is about helping students learn and develop as faithful disciples of Christ in each and every part of life.”

As in previous years, U.S. News & World Report calculated rankings by looking at a range of factors, including Dordt’s high academic success rate, graduation and retention rates, and alumni satisfaction as evidenced by the high percentage of alumni giving to the college.

Dordt College has enjoyed steady enrollment in recent years and has seen an increase in its scholarships and endowments. More than $11 million was raised for new scholarships in the recent Vision 2020 fund-raising campaign.

Dordt College has been ranked on the U.S. News & World Report survey for 21 years and recently has been consistently in the top 10 in its category. The Midwest Regional Colleges list includes 97 ranked colleges in 12 states from Kansas to Ohio.

Dordt has also been recognized as a top regional college by, The Princeton Review, and Washington Monthly. The 2013 America’s Best Colleges special issue is available on newsstands Sept. 18, and ranking information is available on the U.S. News & World Report website at
