GPAC Men's Golf Qualifier Opens

Meet…Dordt will compete at the GPAC Qualifier #1 hosted by Northwestern on Thursday, September 13 at Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City, Iowa.

Participants… All 11 Great Plains Athletic Conference members will send teams to compete in the GPAC Championship Event.

Last Year… Dordt College is in eighth place at GPAC Qualifier #1 hosted by Mount Marty at Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton, South Dakota last September. The round was the first of four played to determine the GPAC champion and spans the entire school year.

Dordt carded a 317 in a tightly contested competition where the top six teams are separated by 11 strokes. Nebraska Wesleyan leads the team field with a 296 while Northwestern, led by low-scorer Neil Malenke, fired a 298. Malenke came in with a 68.

Dordt was led by Ryan Kamp's 75 which puts him in a tie for tenth place overall. Brandon McCracken shot a 76 which puts him in fourteenth place. Madison Moss carded an 82 while Jon Holwerda completed the Dordt scoring with an 84.

Last Time Out… Dordt finished ninth in the 17 team Siouxland Golf Invite field played Thursday and Friday, September 6 and 7 in Orange City and Sioux Center.

The Defenders made an 11 shot improvement from day one to day two with Derek Fox carding a 151 and Sam Vos a 157. Brett Rozenboom and Madison Moss came back from difficult days on Thursday to score a 77 and 76 respectively on day two of the event.

The Ridge golf course was set up for par 71, 6,808 yards.

GPAC Qualifier History…Northwestern won the four round title in 2011-2012 with a 1217 and qualified for the national meet.

Morningside's Brandon Thompson won the individual title with a four round total of 296. Ryan Kamp's 309 for the event that spans four rounds on four different courses from September through May, was good for seventh and All-GPAC honors that go with it.

The Lineup… The lineup after last weekend is pretty muddy.  Derek Fox has the low average with a 75.5 and Sam Vos is at 78.5.  After that the averages are really close.  Nathan Middel and Micah Christensen are at 81.5.  Brett Rozenboom and Kendal Asher each have averages of 82.5 and Madison Moss has an average of 83.0.

After This…Dordt will send a team to the Doane Invite at Wilderness Ridge on September 17 and 18.
