Dordt Football At Dakota Wesleyan Saturday

THE FOE… Dakota Wesleyan is 2-1 in the league and 3-1 overall this season and they are in the NAIA Top-25 Coaches’ Poll at #25. The Tigers lone loss is to Hastings with wins over Briar Cliff, Concordia and Dakota State.
The Tigers have outscored teams 120-90 through four games for a 30.5 points per game average.
The Tigers also average 173 yards per game on the ground while surrendering 113. Dakota Wesleyan throws for 269 yards per game and the defense gives up 251. All totaled the Tigers gain 443 yards per game on offense. Wesleyan has forced nine turnovers and has given the ball up nine times as well.
Jon Bane has completed 59-108 passes for 907 yards in three games for a 302 yards per game average. He has thrown seven touchdown passes and three interceptions. Arthur Brown has 26 catches and averages 11.7 yards per reception. Michael Brown has 16 catches for an 18.2 yards per reception average and Dimitri Fahey has nine catches with a 15.0 average. Josh Endres is the top rusher with 124 carries for 676 yards and a 5.5 yards per rush average. Endres has scored six touchdowns.
Dan Porter is 2-4 on field goal attempts and 12-16 on point after attempts. Derek Carlson averages 46.5 yards per punt after 15 attempts.
Brady Bonte has 18 solo and 21 assisted stops while Mike Barnaud has been in on 13 solo and 24 assisted stops. Anthony Cervantes has seven tackles for loss and 2.5 quarterback sacks with an interception. Dustin Bergmeier has a team high three interceptions and has 14 solo tackles.
THE DEFENDERS…Dordt is 0-5 overall and 0-4 in the GPAC. The Defenders average 12.4 points per game and surrender 34.8. Dordt has run for 1,007 yards and a 201.4 average while opponents have gained 205 yards per game. Dordt has allowed 221 yards of passing per game and gain just under 100 per game in the air. Dordt has given up 17 turnovers while opponents have lost the ball nine times.
Trai Pickney has gained 262 yards on the ground on 32 carries for a 7.9 average and Lenard Manuel has 32 rushes for 196 yards. Daniel Fennig and Josh Van Kempen have 26 and 43 rushing attempts each for 150 and 139 yards respectively. Kyle Henricks has completed 23-44 passes for 302 yards and has rushed for three touchdowns—sharing team honors with Pickney. David Griess has 13 catches for a 10.3 yards per reception average and Pickney has nine catches for 15 yards per.
Heath Boonestoo has eight punts this season with a 42.6 yards per punt average and Darryl Van Grouw has 19 punts for 36.8 yards per punt.
Seth Vande Voort has 30 solo and 23 assisted stops and Vanoy Harris has 25 solo and 15 assists. Sam Ashmore has 8.5 tackles for loss with 22 solo stops and 18 assists and Raymond Cleveland has 23 solo and 16 assisted tackles with two interceptions.
THE LAST TIME THEY PLAYED… Dakota Wesleyan lost a 40-30 shootout to Hastings on Saturday, September 29. Wesleyan scored the last two touchdowns of the game to make it 40-30. Wesleyan gained 559 yards while giving up 523 yards. Hastings held the football for 34:42 of the game to 25:18 for Dakota Wesleyan. Josh Endres ran for 109 yards on 23 carries and Jon Bane completed 24-50 passes for 457 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Arthur Brown had seven catches for 106 yards and a touchdown. Derek Carlson caught three passes and had two touchdowns and had 69 yards in receptions. Brady Bonte had five solo tackles with six assists and Matt McManus had four solo and six assisted stops.
Dordt lost a 33-29 decision to Briar Cliff on Saturday, September 29. The Defender scored a touchdown with 2:09 left in the game to lead 29-26 but the Chargers marched into Dordt territory and scored with ten seconds left for a 33-29 win. Dordt gained a season high 396 yards on offense with Trai Pickney running for 104 yards on nine carries. Daniel Fennig ran for 51 yards on nine rushes. Kyle Henricks was 6-10 passing for 97 yards and Pickney caught three passes for 53 yards. Seth Vande Voort led the Defenders with 10 solo and six assisted tackles with Vanoy Harris and Anthony Hallum getting seven and eight solo tackles respectively.
HISTORY… Dakota Wesleyan is 4-0 through four seasons of football with Dordt. Dakota Wesleyan won a 58-10 decision on October 8. Dordt fell behind 42-0 at halftime and scored before scoring a field goal and touchdown in the second half. Wesleyan was led in running by Josh Endres with 65 yards on 17 carries. Jon Bane was 13-21 in the air for 319 yards and two touchdowns. Clayton Eudel caught four passes for 128 yards and a touchdown. Justin Knot was 6-9 in the air for 82 yards and a touchdown. Sam Verhulst had five catches for 26 yards and Trai Pickney had a catch for a 15 yard touchdown.
AROUND THE CORNER… Dakota Wesleyan travels to Morningside next week while the Defenders are home with Nebraska Wesleyan on October 13.
