Dordt Golf Concludes Fall Season At GPAC Qualifier

Meet… Briar Cliff is hosting GPAC Men’s Golf Qualifier #2 on Wednesday, October 10 at Green Valley. 
Participants… All 11 schools in the Great Plains Athletic Conference will field teams in the GPAC Qualifier #2. 

Last Time On This Course… The Dordt College Defender men's golf team sent two squads to the Briar Cliff Invite at Green Valley in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Defenders had a team finish fifth and sixth in the 15 team field. Dordt's varsity team shot a 317 and was led by Sam Vos's 76 and Madison had a 78. Jon Holwerda also broke 80 with a 79. Vos finished 5th overall and Moss 13th.

The Dordt B team had a 325 and tied for sixth. Bret Rozenboom and Micah Christensen had a 78 and 79 respectively for the B unit. The varsity team was two shots out of fourth and six out of third.

Northwestern won the team title with a 300 and Midland's Renen Sahr shot a 73 on the par-72, 7,061 yard layout.

GPAC Qualifier History… Led by Sam Vos's 74, the Dordt College Defender men's golf team is in fifth place after GPAC Qualifier #1 at Landsmeer in Orange City, Iowa on Thursday, September 13.

Dordt totaled a 306 and trail fourth place Midland by four strokes. Zach Kooiker had a 76 and Jon Holwerda a 77. Both Madison Moss and Derek Fox had 79s to account for Dordt's five scores. Four scores count in the standings of the four round event. The next round will be at Green Valley in Sioux City, Iowa on October 10.

Northwestern leads after shooting a 282. Jay Monahan has the individual lead after shooting a 67. Vos's 74 puts him in a tie ninth and Kooiker is tied for 17th.

Landsmeer was set up for par 71 and 6,441 yards in length.

The Lineup… Dordt’s five on Wednesday will consist of Derek Fox, Jon Holwerda, Madison Moss, Brett Rozenboom and Sam Vos.  Fox has a 79.8 average through six rounds this fall and Holwerda is at 83.8 in six rounds as well.  Madison Moss has brought his average down to 81.0 and Sam Vos is at 80.2.  Brett Rozenboom will compete with an average of 84.6 in five rounds of play this year in his freshman season.

After This…This will be the concluding competition for the Defenders this fall.  They will resume play locally in April 2013.
